The Leamington High-Line is a community-led project aiming to repurpose a disused railway viaduct in Royal Leamington Spa's Old Town into a tree-lined community walkway and garden, connecting the railway station to the Victoria Business Centre. The project has received formal concept approval from Network Rail.
Following the success of the previous archway developments, our vision is to develop atop these archways, building a sky garden, installing solar panels and providing a catalytic cycleway from Old Town to the heart of Leamington.
Survey work is starting on the various elements of the Leamington High-Line and a working group will meet soon to 'geo-locate' the exact position of the original Leamington Avenue station building.
The location of the former L&NWR standard gauge line (Stephenson) next to the GWR broad gauge line (Brunel) is an important part of the Leamington Spa railway story and is going to be celebrated for Railway200.
The High-Line project is part of a broader set of regeneration and transformation initiatives for the town centre, led by the Warwick District Council and Warwickshire County Council, under the "Transforming Leamington" framework. These larger plans focus on the town's overall vision, including:
Public Realm Masterplan: Developing concept designs for the Parade (Leamington's main street) to improve air quality, promote sustainable transport, and create more vibrant public spaces.
Neighbourhood Plan: The Royal Leamington Spa Neighbourhood Development Plan, adopted in May 2021, guides development in the area and includes policies related to transport, green spaces, and conservation areas that provide a planning context for projects like the High-Line.
Green Corridors: The High-Line aligns with the council's commitment to enhancing green spaces and improving accessibility for walking and cycling, contributing to a wider green infrastructure network connecting areas like Warwick and Leamington.
